So What Do I Have “To Do” To “Be”?

by Aimée Yawnick on March 15, 2010

Because so many of the women I work with are highly motivated, results oriented go-getters, they are accustomed to having a lot on their plate. In their minds, the more they do, the more accomplished their life.

The reality is though, they are missing out on a lot! Specifically their connection to themselves. By always being in motion and looking for the next thing to do, they have way too much on their plates, they resist asking for help because part of feeling that sense of accomplishment means being able to say they did it all their own, so they feel way overwhelmed and they spend most of their time playing catch up!

The human body, mind and Spirit can only go on like this for so long before it creates a distraction that causes us to STOP and take a look at what’s going on. When we get to that point where we “give in” and say something has to change, this is where I gently recommend to my client that she slow down and take more time to “be”.

Now this inevitably causes my client to ask the question, “Well, what do I have “to do” to be more? ” I can’t help but chuckle because this was the exact response I gave to my coach when she gave me the same recommendation. What’s so funny is that we are so caught up in the “doing” that we assume there must be something to do in order to be.

The thought of doing nothing in oder to pause long enough to be is scary for many high achievers. If you are not doing something, then you are obviously wasting valuable time that could be better well spent getting something done.

I beg to differ. And please understand that if I can come to accept and understand this concept, you can too. I was (and on some level still am) a great advocate of doing. However, what I have come to learn is that by finding the right balance between “doing” and “being”, you will BE a healthier more productive you! Yes, I said more productive!

The key is that by being more, you are leveraging the time you spend connecting with your Inner Wisdom so that you can recharge your battery. When your battery is at full power you can do more with less output. Which will leave you feeling energized, enthusiastic, balanced and ready to do more!

Does that make sense?

Let me know your thoughts on this would you? Share your comments below, I’d love to hear how this resonates for you!

Amy,
This one is so true for me as I write for Aspire. The more I am in that energy of doing, I am disconnected from me. When I slow down, I reconnect and I am inspired from above and within to write more!
Thanks for sharing!
